1.1 Background of the Study
Indigenous musical instruments play an integral role in the cultural heritage of communities, acting as a medium for expressing history, spirituality, and social values. Zuru Local Government Area (LGA) in Kebbi State is home to a rich array of indigenous musical traditions, many of which are associated with unique instruments such as the goge, kalangu, and konkoma. However, with the rapid globalization and the influence of modern music, the traditional use of these instruments has begun to decline, threatening the preservation of these cultural practices. Photography, as a powerful visual tool, can play an essential role in showcasing these instruments, documenting their significance, and fostering pride among the local community. This study examines the influence of photography on promoting indigenous musical instruments in Zuru LGA, exploring how photography can raise awareness about their importance and contribute to their preservation.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite their cultural significance, many indigenous musical instruments in Zuru LGA face the risk of becoming obsolete due to the growing dominance of modern musical forms and the lack of visibility of traditional practices. The absence of platforms to showcase the beauty and relevance of these instruments has further marginalized their place in the cultural landscape. Photography offers a way to document and promote the cultural value of these instruments, but its potential in advocating for their preservation has not been fully explored. This study aims to investigate how photography can contribute to the promotion and preservation of indigenous musical instruments in Zuru LGA.

By documenting the traditional musical instruments of Zuru LGA, photography can help raise public awareness about their cultural value, inspiring efforts to protect and revitalize them. Additionally, the findings could inform future initiatives aimed at preserving indigenous music in Kebbi State and beyond.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to Zuru LGA in Kebbi State and focuses specifically on the role of photography in promoting indigenous musical instruments. It does not address other forms of cultural preservation or broader cultural challenges in the region.
